Dr. Tucker Named to Prestigious List

The National School Boards Association's (NSBA) Technology Leadership Network (TLN) announced its “20 to Watch” honorees for 2016-2017 earlier this month.

Education leaders from across the country are recognized for their ability to inspire colleagues to explore and embrace innovative technology solutions and instructional strategies that contribute to high-quality learning experiences for all students.

The 20 to Watch program honors educators nationally who are passionate, capable, curious, and always thinking about the next technology innovation for education.

The NSBA thought so much about the things happening in LPS, that Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Tucker made the 2016-2017 20 to Watch list, which was announced on April 3.

In true Tucker fashion, he deflected the recognition heaped upon him and praised the staff and administrators at LPS.

“It is pretty humbling to be a part of that quality of a group and to be recognized in that capacity,” Tucker said, “but it is really a reflection of our team and our district efforts as to where we are at in innovation. You can’t solely take the credit by any means, but share the accolades with everyone.”

In their write-up, NSBA said this about Tucker: “Under Dr. Jeremy Tucker’s leadership, EPiC Elementary has become a model school for creativity and problem-based learning that uses visionary and innovative practices advanced through the use of technology. He encourages his staff to embrace the concepts of Future Ready schools and align classroom instructional design with project-based learning. As a #GoOpen Ambassador district, he shares the district’s experiences with open education resources (OER) across the country.”

Tucker has been the superintendent of LPS for over three years and feels at home.

“It has been great,” Tucker said. “We enjoy Liberty, the experiences we have had here as a family, and definitely, the support of the school board.”

In his years at LPS, Tucker has been impressed with the level of engagement of the students and the level of expectation from the parents and family as LPS continues to navigate growth and change in the Liberty community.

Tucker and his staff are never satisfied with the status quo. They want to keep improving the educational opportunities for the students.

“There are certainly areas we can improve upon as far as challenges we face,” Tucker said.

One of the challenges is to maintain the high level of education for each student as the district continues to grow. Tucker is thankful LPS is in a community in which businesses take an active part in the education process.

“Community partnership is key for us as we look at a variety of learning opportunities for kids,” Tucker said. “If they want to pursue college or the career path of their choosing, how do we partner with our community to be able to give them a glimpse of what those options are like.”
